So as many of you already know (at least in Canada), the CBC has lost its rights to the beloved theme song for “Hockey Night In Canada”. As a result they have created a contest to see who can write the next theme. We had a song kicking around that didn’t really have a home so we decided to enter it. We’ve called it “Faceoff” and you can hear it below. If you like it, please go to CBC.CA to vote for us!

Hello Everybody!

Sorry that the updates have been few and far between, but I can assure you that we haven’t been slacking off. We’ve been busy booking shows (see live page), writing some new songs and we’ve also been asked to back up some friends of ours for a couple of shows as well. Daley and myself will be playing with our friend Scott MacLeod when he gallaps into town from Calgary for his NXNE showcase on June 12th. Pete, Mella, and myself will be cruising down the QEW to back up our friend Aaron Goldstein for a show in Hamilton on June 7th. So we’ve been cramming our little brains with a lot of new material lately! Here’s hoping we pull it off! It should be fun!

The record has been out for a little while now and has been doing pretty well. We’re still working on the digital download option and hope to have it available very soon. In the meantime, you can contact us if you’d like a copy or visit one of the retail outlets that carry it (see Music page). You’ll also find a link on our music page to request our songs on CBC Radio 3. Head on over if you feel so inclined. We’d appreciate the “shout-out”!

I guess that’s it for now, take care of each other, and I leave you with this....

Barfly in Montreal, CIUT, and a Wallscenery holler

Hi everyone, Peter here. Goings on are slow right now but I wanted to mention some things that are coming up in the near future. The month of May will see NWD’s first gig in Quebec, and we’re pretty excited to play. We are playing with the Angry Parrots at Barfly, located at 4062 on good ol’ Boulevard St. Laurent. A quick google showed me that the Montreal Mirror voted Barfly the “Best Sleazy Dive” a couple of years ago, so we’re ready to get into ‘er.

Also, for those of you wrapped in tinfoil hanging around dorm rooms listening to Campus radio (at least that’s how it was in PEI), a new friend of ours Elfie is going to play some Northwest Division on his CIUT show, Rabid Ears. Tune in this Thurs, May 8. 89.5fm, 10pm-11pm.

Last but not least I wanted to give a big shout out to our friend James Hicken and his project the Wallscenery demos. Wallscenery is getting rave reviews like this one from Eye Weekly, and this one from It’s not the band I hate, it’s their fans. You can hear members of NWD make some cameo appearances in Jimmer’s quilted patchwork of psychedelic sounds. Whoa man, I just blew my own mind. For fans of Beck, Madlib, Guided By Voices or Galaxie 500.

Ok folks that’s it for now, stay tuned for info on iTunes availability (working on it) and our return to Guelph next month.

Beauty abounds,
Peter
